Supplies
Clear cups or glasses (one per group or child)
Soda water or lemonade (any fizzy drink will work)
Raisins (about 5–10 per cup)
Optional: plain water for comparison
Steps
Pour soda water or lemonade into a clear cup until it's about ¾ full.
Drop a few raisins into the cup and watch closely.
Observe as the raisins sink, then slowly rise to the top, then sink again — like they’re dancing!
Optional: Set up a second cup with plain water and raisins to compare the difference.
Other Information
The fizz (carbon dioxide bubbles) attaches to the raisins and lifts them up. When the bubbles pop, the raisins sink — making them “dance.”
Great for introducing basic science concepts like buoyancy, gases, and observation.
Easy clean-up and fun for all ages.
Encourage kids to make predictions before dropping the raisins in.
