Supplies
Air dry clay (e.g. DAS, Jovi – available at Warehouse Stationery or Kmart)
Bowl of water (for smoothing)
Wooden skewer or clay tool
Black paint (acrylic or poster paint)
Paintbrushes (thin for details)
Optional: Aprons and table covers
Steps
Roll Your Clay BallTake a small handful of air dry clay and roll it into a ball about the size of an orange.
Make a Thumb HolePress your thumb down into the centre of the ball – this is the start of your pot.
Pinch the SidesUse your thumb and fingers to gently pinch and turn the clay, forming a bowl shape. Keep the sides even and not too thin (about 1cm thick).
Smooth It OutDip your fingers in water and gently smooth out any cracks or rough spots. Don’t add too much water – just enough to make it smooth.
Let It DryLeave the pot in a warm, dry area for 24–48 hours until it’s completely dry and hard.
Decorate with Ancient SymbolsUse black paint to add Ancient Egyptian designs like:
The Eye of Horus
Zig-zag borders
Papyrus plants
Scarabs or ankhsLet the paint dry fully before handling.
