Balloon Jet Rockets

Supplies:

• Long piece of string (about 2–3 metres)

• Balloon (any colour)

• Straw

• Tape

• Two chairs or other supports

Steps:

1. Cut your string and thread it through the straw.

2. Tie one end of the string to a chair or other solid support.

3. Stretch the string tight and tie the other end to another chair or support across the room.

4. Blow up the balloon (don’t tie it!) and pinch the end to keep the air in.

5. Tape the balloon to the straw while still holding the end closed.

6. Let go of the balloon and watch it zoom along the string like a rocket!

Other Information:

• You can make it a race by setting up two strings side by side.

• Try changing balloon sizes or straw lengths to see which rocket goes fastest.
