Supplies
1–4 soft balls (pretend “coconuts”). Foam balls, dodgeballs, or even rolled-up socks work fine.
Cones or markers for start and finish lines.
How to Play (Base Rules)
Split kids into even teams.
Each team lines up behind a cone.
On “Go!”, the first player races to the other side of the court and back using the coconut in the chosen way, then passes it to the next player.
First team to have all players finish wins.
Relay Variations
Knee Squeeze – Hold the coconut between your knees and hop/run to the cone and back.
Under the Chin – Tuck the coconut under your chin (hands behind your back!) and walk fast.
Overhead Carry – Hold the coconut above your head the whole way.
Back Balance – Balance the coconut on your back while crawling like a crab.
One-Handed – Carry the coconut in one hand, arm out to the side, without switching hands.
Pass the Coconut – Teams line up, and players must pass the coconut over their heads then through their legs to the next player until it reaches the end. Then last player races with it.
Waddle Walk – Put the coconut between your ankles and shuffle forward like a penguin.
Blindfold Buddy – One player is blindfolded carrying the coconut, their partner gives directions.
Coconut Spin – Spin around 5 times with the coconut before running the length of the course.
Team Balance – Two kids hold the coconut between their hips or shoulders and must run together without dropping it.
