Dance around the numbers

Supplies

• Large drawn numbers (0–9 or 1–10)

• Tape or blu-tack to stick numbers on the floor

• Music player and fun playlist

Steps

1. Spread the number cards out on the floor in a large circle or scattered safely across an open space.

2. Play music and have the children dance or move freely around the numbers.

3. When the music stops, call out a number (e.g. “Find number 7!”).

4. Children must quickly move to and stand by the correct number.

5. You can remove numbers or mix up the positions to increase the challenge as the game goes on.

Other Information

• You can increase difficulty by using simple sums (“Find the answer to 3 + 2!”) or making it a team game.

• Encourage creative movement styles between rounds (e.g. hop, tiptoe, moonwalk).
