Age Group: 5–13 yearsGroup Size: 4–20 childrenTime Needed: 10–20 minutesSetup: Children sit in a circle on the floor or on chairs
Supplies:
None needed
How to Play:
Explain the BasicsChildren will be creating and copying drum beats using only their hands and legs.
Common sounds include:
Clapping hands
Patting thighs
Tapping shoulders
Finger snapping (for older children)
Start the Rhythm Circle
One child starts by making a short rhythm sequence (e.g. pat-pat-clap).
The next child copies the exact rhythm, then adds one new move to the end (e.g. pat-pat-clap-snap).
The rhythm continues around the circle, growing each time.
Challenge Option
If someone forgets the sequence, they can either rejoin after a round or sit out (depending on group age and preference).
Keep the tone light and fun, not competitive, especially for younger children.
Tips:
Go slowly on the first few rounds to help everyone understand.
For younger groups, keep sequences short (3–4 beats).
For older children, try adding a twist like doing it with eyes closed.
