Emerald Picking

Supplies

  • Green cellophane squares (cut into “emeralds”)

  • Chopsticks (1 set per child)

  • Bowls or cups (to collect emeralds)

  • Timer (optional, for timed rounds)

  • Table space or floor area

Steps

  1. Scatter the green cellophane pieces (emeralds) across a table or floor.

  2. Give each child a pair of chopsticks and a small bowl or cup.

  3. On “Go!”, children must pick up as many emeralds as they can using only chopsticks.

  4. Continue until all emeralds are collected, or set a time limit (e.g., 1 minute).

  5. Count each child’s emeralds to find the winner.

Variations

  • Team relay: Teams take turns picking emeralds, one child at a time.

  • Challenge mode: Add obstacles like spreading emeralds further apart or making them smaller.

  • Beginner option: Use tongs instead of chopsticks for younger children.
