Supplies:
½ cup hot water
¼ cup salt (or try sugar or baking soda for variation)
Jar or cup (clear if possible)
Spoon
String
Stick, pencil or popsicle stick
Paper clip (or small object to weigh the string down)
Optional: food colouring, glitter
Steps:
Mix the SolutionPour ½ cup hot water into the jar. Stir in salt a little at a time, until no more dissolves (you may not use all the salt).
Set the WandTie one end of a string to a stick or pencil. Tie the other end to a paper clip or small object. Lower it into the solution so it dangles in the centre, without touching the bottom.
Add MagicAdd food colouring or glitter to your solution for a magical twist!
Place Somewhere SafeLeave the jar in a warm, undisturbed place. Check it daily. Crystals will start to grow in 1–3 days!
Observe the MagicWatch as shiny crystals form on the string and paper clip — it’s like growing your own magical crystal wand!
Other Information:
Tip: For bigger crystals, let water evaporate slowly and don’t move the jar.
