“Open Fortune” Stamped Cookies

(Flat sugar cookies with positive messages stamped into them)
Supplies
Ingredients
125g butter (softened)
½ cup white sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla essence
1½ cups plain flour
½ tsp baking powder
Pinch of salt
Optional:
Red or gold sprinkles
Edible glitter
Melted white chocolate for drizzling
Equipment
Mixing bowls
Electric mixer or wooden spoon
Baking trays
Baking paper
Rolling pin
Letter stamps (clean + food safe)
6–8cm round cookie cutter (or use a cup)
Wire cooling rack
Method
1️⃣ Preheat
Preheat oven to 170°C (fan bake).Line baking trays with baking paper.
2️⃣ Cream Butter & Sugar
Beat butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
Add egg and vanilla.
Mix until combined.
3️⃣ Add Dry Ingredients
Sift in flour, baking powder and salt.
Mix until dough forms.
If slightly sticky, chill in fridge for 20–30 minutes.
4️⃣ Roll & Cut
Roll dough to about 5mm thick.
Cut into circles.
Place on baking tray with space between.
5️⃣ Stamp the Fortunes
Before baking:
Lightly flour the letter stamps.
Press words gently into the cookie surface.
Keep messages short like:
LUCKY
JOY
BRAVE
KIND
HAPPY
SHINE
2026
PROSPER
Make sure children press evenly but not too deep.
6️⃣ Bake
Bake for 10–12 minutes until lightly golden around edges.
Cool on tray for 5 minutes before transferring to rack.
7️⃣ Decorate (Optional)
Once cool:
Drizzle white chocolate.
Add red/gold sprinkles.
Light edible glitter dust.
Why They’re Called “Open Fortune” Cookies
Instead of folding like traditional fortune cookies:
The message is stamped directly on top.
No tricky hot folding.
No burnt fingers.
Much more manageable for groups.
