Supplies:
Masking tape or chalk (to create the tic tac toe grid on the ground)
9 large paper plates per game (mix of orange and green)
Black markers or crayons
Optional: stickers, googly eyes, and craft materials for decorating
Flat play area (indoor hall or outdoor court)
Steps:
Set Up the Game Grid
Staff use masking tape (or chalk if outdoors) to create a giant 3x3 tic tac toe grid on the floor.
Each square should be big enough to fit a paper plate comfortably.
Decorate the Plates
Give each child one or more plates to design.
Orange plates = Pumpkins 🎃
Use black markers to draw pumpkin faces or Halloween expressions.
Green plates = Zombies 🧟
Draw zombie faces with scars, eyes, and spooky details.
Let the plates dry if markers are used heavily.
Divide into Teams
Split the group into two teams: Team Pumpkins and Team Zombies.
Each team should have at least 5 plates (to ensure enough for gameplay).
How to Play
Teams take turns placing one of their plates in an empty square on the grid.
The goal is to get three of your team’s plates in a row — across, down, or diagonally.
The first team to do so wins the round!
Keep the Fun Going
After each round, mix up teams or swap roles so everyone gets a turn being a Pumpkin or Zombie.
Encourage the kids to cheer for both sides and celebrate the creativity of everyone’s designs.
