Materials Needed:
Printed baby dinosaur pictures (one per child)
White or light-coloured card (for eggs)
Coloured paper or crayons/markers (for decorating eggs)
Scissors
Glue stick
Popsicle stick (one per child)
Sticky tape
Instructions:
Colour the Baby Dinosaur
Each child selects a printed baby dinosaur.
They colour it in using crayons, markers, or pencils.
Cut Out the Dinosaur
Carefully cut around the coloured dinosaur image.
Make the Egg
Cut out two identical egg shapes from card.
On one of the egg pieces, draw and cut a zigzag line across the top to create a cracked egg shell.
Decorate both egg pieces with spots, lines, or colours.
Attach the Dinosaur to the Stick
Tape the bottom of the baby dinosaur to the top of a popsicle stick.
Assemble the Egg
Glue the full (uncracked) egg piece to the back of the popsicle stick, so it becomes the back of the egg.
Then glue the cracked egg bottom piece to the front, covering the lower part of the dinosaur.
Finish the Hatch Effect
Glue the cracked egg top to the top of the dinosaur’s head, not to the egg — this allows it to move.
Now, when the popsicle stick is pulled up and down, the dinosaur appears to hatch from the egg.
Optional Extensions:
Add glitter or texture to the egg with foil, sequins, or tissue paper.
