Hero relay races

Objective:

Race as a superhero team, passing the mask and cape to the next runner in line!

Players:

  • 6+ kids (best in teams of 3–6)

Supplies:

  • 1 superhero cape and 1 superhero mask per team (can be paper, fabric, or DIY versions)

  • Cones or markers to define the relay zone

  • Optional: Stopwatch or music for added excitement

Set-Up:

  1. Divide kids into even teams.

  2. Set up a clear start and turnaround point (e.g., 10–20 metres apart).

  3. Each team has one cape and one mask.

How to Play:

  1. First player on each team wears the mask and cape.

  2. On “GO!”, they run to the other end, take off the cape and mask, and hand them to the next player.

  3. The next hero puts on the gear and runs back to the starting line.

  4. Repeat until every team member has run.

Winning:

The first team to have all players complete the relay wins — but everyone’s a hero for playing!

Variations:

  • Obstacle version: Add cones to zigzag through or tunnels to crawl under.

  • Power Move Bonus: Each runner must strike a superhero pose at the turnaround point.

  • Theme Race: Assign each team a hero identity and have them do themed runs (e.g., Spider Crawl, Hulk Smash Steps).
