Supplies:
A few pre-written jokes (optional, for inspiration or shy participants)
A simple “stage” area (a mat, chair, or just a spot to stand)
Optional: silly dress-ups like jester hats, glasses, scarves, or wigs
Applause or laughter signs (optional but fun!)
How to Play:
Set the SceneExplain that jesters were entertainers in royal courts who told jokes, acted silly, and made people laugh.Today, it’s their turn to become the royal jester and try to entertain the court!
Give Time to PrepareLet children either:
Choose a joke from a joke sheet,
Make up their own silly joke,
Or perform a funny voice, dance, or silly face.
Take the Stage!One at a time, children step up and perform their joke for the group. Encourage loud, clear voices and lots of enthusiasm!
Celebrate Each JesterAfter each joke, lead the group in a round of applause, laughter, or “royal approval” (e.g. clapping like nobles, waving paper scrolls, etc.)
Optional Twist – Awards!Give out fun titles like:
Silliest Jester
Most Original Joke
Loudest Laugh
Best Delivery
Most Dramatic Performance
Tips:
Keep the environment supportive and positive — every attempt is celebrated!
Younger kids can pair with older ones if needed.
Use this as a great confidence-builder and chance to practise public speaking in a fun way.
