Lip Sync Battle

Purpose:

A high-energy, low-pressure performance game where kids "sing" along to their favourite songs—no actual singing skills required!

What You’ll Need:

  • A speaker or sound system

  • A phone/tablet/laptop with a playlist of kid-appropriate songs

  • A microphone prop (real or fake—plastic toy mics or rolled paper work great!)

  • Optional: stage space, curtain backdrop, fun dress-ups or props

  • A list of performers or sign-up sheet

  • A judging panel or audience voting cards ("Funniest," "Best Dance Moves," "Most Dramatic," etc.)

How to Run It:

1. Set the Stage

  • Create a small performance area with space for dancing and big moves.

  • Optional: add fairy lights, curtains, or signs for extra flair.

2. Prepare the Playlist

  • Preload a list of appropriate, energetic songs.

  • Let kids pick their own or choose from a shortlist.

  • Great options include:

    • “Shake It Off” – Taylor Swift

    • “Can’t Stop the Feeling” – Justin Timberlake

    • “Let It Go” – Frozen

    • “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” – Encanto

    • “Happy” – Pharrell Williams

3. Brief the Kids

  • Explain they won’t actually sing—they’ll mime the words and act it out.

  • Encourage big dance moves, gestures, props, and facial expressions.

  • Make it silly, dramatic, fun—no pressure to be perfect!

4. Time to Perform

  • Call kids up one at a time or in small groups.

  • Play their chosen song for 30–60 seconds (or longer if they want).

  • Cheer them on like a rock star audience!

5. Optional Judging or Voting

  • Have a panel of judges (staff or other kids) give fun, kind feedback.

  • Or let the audience vote using signs or applause.

  • Give out silly awards like:

    • “Most Confident”

    • “Best Use of Props”

    • “Most Dramatic Lip Sync”

    • “Crowd Favourite”

Tips to Keep it Fun

  • Keep performances short to maintain momentum.

  • Offer group options for shy kids.

  • Let everyone who wants to join in have a go—this is about fun, not competition!

  • Consider a staff performance to kick it off and get everyone excited!
