Supplies:
Large cardboard or foam sheets (for fish shapes)
Scissors
Markers, paint, or coloured paper for decorating fish
Paper clips (one per fish)
String or yarn (about 1 metre per fishing rod)
Sticks, dowels, or cardboard tubes (for fishing rods)
Magnets (one per fishing rod — strong enough to pick up paper clips)
Tape or glue
Steps:
Cut out large fish shapes from cardboard or foam sheets.
Decorate each fish with bright colours, patterns, and names if you like!
Attach a paper clip to the fish’s mouth — this is what the magnet will “catch.”
To make the fishing rods, tie one end of the string to a stick or tube.
Tape or glue a magnet securely to the other end of the string.
Spread the fish out on the floor, in a paddling pool, or on blue paper to look like water.
Players take turns “fishing” by lowering their magnet into the ocean to try and catch a fish!
Other Information:
For added fun, give each fish a point value and turn it into a competition.
You can theme it — e.g. sharks, jellyfish, or mermaids.
