Musical Hula- Hoops

Supplies

• Hula hoops (one fewer than the number of children)

• Music player and playlist

• Open space (hall, court, or grass area)

Steps

1. Lay the hula hoops on the ground in a large circle or scattered around the space.

2. Start the music and have children walk, dance, or move around the hoops.

3. When the music stops, each child must quickly stand inside a hula hoop.

4. The child left without a hoop is out (optional) or can help control the music.

5. Remove one hoop and repeat until one player remains — or just keep it fun with no eliminations.

Other Information

• Great twist on musical chairs with more movement.

• For a non-elimination version, challenge kids to share hoops as you remove them.

• Can be adapted to include different movement styles (e.g. hop, tiptoe, dance).

• Make sure the area is clear and safe to prevent slips.
