Supplies
Large play parachute (or a clean sheet/tarpaulin)
Open space (hall, field, or large indoor area)
Soft balls, beanbags, or small plush toys (optional)
Music player (optional for musical games)
Steps
Have children evenly spread around the edge of the parachute and each hold a handle or edge firmly.
Start with some warm-up movements like:
Mushroom: Everyone lifts the parachute high together, then quickly steps under and sits down to trap air.
Waves: Make small or big waves by shaking the parachute up and down.
Popcorn: Place soft balls or beanbags in the centre and bounce them by lifting and lowering the chute.
Move into active games like:
Cat & Mouse: One child crawls underneath the chute (mouse), while another on top (cat) tries to find them as others shake the chute.
Colour Call: Call out a colour or number. Children standing at those handles run underneath to the other side before the chute falls.
Parachute Tag: Lift the chute high and call two names — those kids must run underneath and swap sides before it falls.
Finish with a calm-down game like:
Story Time Shelter: Lift the parachute, everyone sits under it while you tell a short story or play calming music.
