Rock, Paper, Scissors Tournament

Supplies

  • No equipment required

  • Optional:

    • Whistle or bell

    • Whiteboard or paper to track winners

    • Stickers or stamps for participants

Set-Up

  • Choose a clear playing area (hall, playground, or open classroom)

  • Explain and demonstrate the three actions:

    • Rock = fist

    • Paper = flat hand

    • Scissors = two fingers

  • Remind children this is a friendly game — cheering is encouraged, arguing is not

How to Play (Tournament Style)

  1. Pair children upStaff help younger children find a partner.

  2. Play one roundOn the count of “Rock, Paper, Scissors, SHOOT!”, both players show their choice.

  3. Winner moves on

    • Winner moves to the next round

    • Loser steps aside and becomes a cheer supporter or joins the consolation round

  4. Re-pair winnersWinners are paired again and repeat the process.

  5. Continue roundsKeep playing until:

    • One overall winner remains or

    • Time runs out

Optional Variations

  • Best of Three – players must win two rounds

  • Team Tournament – teams send one player at a time

  • Consolation Games – losers continue playing for fun

  • Kindness Rule – winner gives the loser a high-five or kind comment
