Supplies:
Clean socks (crew or ankle length – any colours)
Googly eyes
Felt sheets (for mouths, noses, ears, accessories)
Wool/yarn (for hair)
PVA glue or hot glue (adult use only)
Scissors
Optional: buttons, pom poms, ribbon, pipe cleaners
Steps:
Prepare the sock:Choose a sock and place your hand inside to decide where the puppet’s mouth will sit (usually the toe area).
Create the mouth:Cut a small oval or smile shape from felt. Glue it onto the toe area of the sock where the puppet's mouth would be.
Add eyes:Glue two googly eyes above the mouth. You can space them close together for a funny look or far apart for a quirky style.
Make the hair:Cut lengths of yarn and tie them together in bunches. Glue the bunch onto the top of the sock for hair.Tip: Kids can choose fringes, ponytails, braids, or wild spiky hair!
Add extra features:
Felt circles for noses
Felt triangles or circles for ears
Pipe cleaners for glasses or eyebrows
Buttons for decorations on the “body” of the sock
Let it dry:Allow all glued pieces to fully dry before using the puppets for play.
Put on a puppet show!Encourage children to name their puppets and create characters, voices, or mini skits.
