Spider Web Challenge

Equipment

  • Wool or string (multiple lengths)

  • Chairs, poles, fence, or doorway to tie string to

  • Tape (optional, for securing ends)

  • Timer (optional)

Setup

  1. Choose a doorway, fence, or two sturdy anchor points.

  2. Tie lengths of wool back and forth across the space to create a spider web.

  3. Vary the height and angles of the string.

  4. Leave some gaps big enough for children to pass through.

⚠️ Make sure the string is not too tight and is tied securely.

How to Play

  1. Divide children into small teams.

  2. Explain the challenge:

    • The team must get every member from one side of the web to the other.

    • No one is allowed to touch the string.

  3. Children may:

    • Crawl under

    • Step over

    • Carefully pass through gaps

    • Help teammates safely

  4. If a child touches the string:

    • That player returns to the startor

    • The whole team starts again (staff choice).

  5. The game finishes when the entire team successfully crosses.

Rules & Safety

  • No pushing or lifting children.

  • Take turns and move slowly.

  • Staff to actively supervise and assist if needed.

  • Shoes on at all times.

  • Stop immediately if the structure becomes loose.

  • Great for teamwork, problem-solving, and communication

  • Works indoors or outdoors

  • Best for 6+ years (simplify for younger kids)

  • Silent Spider: No talking allowed

  • Glow Web: Use bright wool or tape

  • Rescue Mission: Carry an object through without touching the web
