Splatter Paint Art
Supplies
A3 or A4 paper (thick paper or cardboard works best)
Washable poster paint or acrylic paint
Old toothbrushes, paintbrushes, or small spoons
Water (to thin paint slightly if needed)
Plastic trays or plates for paint
Drop cloths, newspaper, or large plastic sheets
Aprons or old T-shirts
Pegs and string (optional – for drying line)
Outdoor space or large indoor area with easy clean-up
Steps
Set up your space
Cover all surfaces and the floor with drop cloths or newspaper.
Set up painting stations with paper laid flat on the ground or clipped to easels or fences.
Prepare the paint
Pour a small amount of each paint colour into trays or plates.
If the paint is thick, add a little water to loosen it – you want it runny enough to flick easily but not watery.
Create your splatter tools
Use toothbrushes for flicking paint by running your thumb across the bristles.
Alternatively, use paintbrushes or spoons to flick, drip, or splash paint onto the paper.
Time to splatter
Let children choose their colours and flick, drip, or throw paint onto their paper from a short distance.
Encourage layering colours and experimenting with techniques like dripping, tapping, or flinging.
Let it dry
Carefully move artwork to a drying area.
If outdoors, peg them onto a string line or lay flat on the ground.
