Traditional African Game - Ampe

Players: 2 or more (best in pairs or rotating tournament-style)Space: Any open area (hall, classroom, or outdoor space)

Steps:

  1. Two players stand facing each other.

  2. One player calls out “Ampe!” and both jump up, clapping once in the air.

  3. As they land, each player throws one foot forward.

  4. The goal is to match or predict whether the feet will be the same or different (left/right).

Example:
  • One child is the “leader” and tries to predict what the other player’s foot will be.

  • If they guess correctly (e.g. both put out the same foot), they earn a point.

  • First to 5 or 10 points wins, then swap pairs!

🤸 Why It’s Fun:

  • Super energetic and perfect for burning end-of-day energy.

  • No equipment needed.

  • Encourages quick thinking and coordination.

  • Easy to set up mini competitions or team relays.
