Supplies
Water balloons (10–20 depending on group size)
String or twine
A sturdy stick, plastic bat, or foam bat
A tree branch, clothesline, or overhead beam to hang balloons
A bucket or container to hold filled balloons
Optional: Blindfold (depending on age and safety)
Steps
Prep the Balloons:Fill water balloons and tie them securely. Place them in a bucket until you're ready to hang them.
Set Up the Piñata Line:Tie pieces of string to each balloon.Hang the balloons from a tree branch, clothesline, or beam so they dangle at head/chest height for the children.
Safety Check:Make sure children stand back at least 2 metres from the swinging area.Go over clear safety rules:– No swinging the bat unless the leader says go– Only one child inside the “hit zone” at a time– Leader retrieves the bat between turns
Gameplay:One child steps forward, takes the bat, and attempts to hit a water balloon.Give them 3–5 swings. If they miss, the next child has a turn. When a balloon bursts, cheer and replace it with a new one (optional).
Continue Until Everyone Has a Turn:Ensure each child gets at least one chance to swing and one chance to burst a balloon.
