Supplies
Card cut-out letters (first letter of each child’s name) – check planning list for what’s already prepared
Scissors
Assorted yarn (lots of colours and textures)
PVA glue or glue sticks
Tape (for securing yarn ends)
Pom-poms, sequins, buttons, foam shapes, or stickers
Optional: Hot glue gun (for adult use only for heavier items)
Thick card and craft knives (for staff use if letters need to be made on site)
Steps
Choose your letter
Each child finds the card cut-out of the first letter of their name.
If any are missing, a staff member can cut a new one out of thick card.
Attach the yarn
Pick your first colour of yarn.
Tape the end of the yarn to the back of the letter to keep it secure.
Wrap the letter
Begin wrapping the yarn tightly around the letter.
Try to cover as much of the surface as possible.
To change colours, cut the yarn and tape or glue a new colour to the back.
Finish wrapping
Once the letter is fully wrapped, trim the yarn and secure the end to the back with tape or glue.
Decorate
Add your choice of decorations: pom-poms, sequins, foam shapes, stickers, etc.
Glue these onto the front of the wrapped letter.
Ask a staff member if you need help attaching heavier items.
Dry and display
Let glue dry flat.
Letters can be taken home or displayed in the programme space with names underneath.
