Minecraft Cakepops

Ingredients (Cake):

  • 175 g butter, softened

  • 175 g caster sugar

  • 3 large eggs

  • 175 g self-raising flour

  • 2 tbsp milk

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

(This makes a basic sponge cake — chocolate version: replace 25 g flour with cocoa powder.)

Other Ingredients:

  • 3–4 tbsp buttercream or cream cheese frosting (homemade or store-bought)

  • 300 g white chocolate (for coating)

  • Food colouring: green, brown, black (gel colours work best)

  • Optional: candy melts in Minecraft colours (green, black, brown)

  • Sprinkles or small fondant squares for pixel texture

  • Lollipop sticks or paper straws

Equipment:

  • Mixing bowls

  • Electric mixer or wooden spoon

  • Square cake tin (20 cm)

  • Baking paper

  • Cooling rack

  • Microwave-safe bowls (for chocolate)

  • Baking tray lined with paper

Instructions:

Step 1: Bake Cake

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (160°C fan). Grease and line a 20 cm square tin.

  2. Cream butter and sugar until pale and fluffy.

  3. Beat in eggs one at a time. Stir in vanilla.

  4. Fold in flour (and cocoa if using chocolate version). Add milk to loosen.

  5. Spoon into tin, bake 20–25 mins until golden and springy.

  6. Cool completely on a rack.

Step 2: Make Cake Dough

  1. Crumble cooled cake into fine crumbs in a bowl.

  2. Mix in buttercream 1 tbsp at a time until mixture holds together like dough.

  3. Roll and press into small cubes (instead of spheres for Minecraft look).

  4. Place cubes on tray, insert sticks, and chill 1 hour (or 20 mins in freezer).

Step 3: Coating

  1. Melt white chocolate or candy melts. Tint with gel colours (green for Creepers, brown for dirt blocks, black for obsidian).

  2. Dip each cube to coat fully. Tap gently to remove excess.

  3. Before coating sets, decorate with sprinkles/fondant squares for pixel detail.

    • Creeper = green with black face.

    • Dirt block = brown sides with green tops.

    • Obsidian = black with grey specks.

    • Steve = tan base, brown hair, blue eyes.

Step 4: Set & Serve

  • Stand cakepops upright in a foam block or box to dry.

  • Allow coating to harden fully before serving.

  • Makes about 20–25 cakepops.
