Mummy Cupcakes

Supplies & Ingredients


For the cupcakes:

  • 1 ½ cups self-raising flour

  • ½ cup cocoa powder

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 2 eggs

  • ¾ cup milk

  • ½ cup vegetable oil or melted butter

  • 1 tsp vanilla essence

  • ½ cup boiling water

  • Muffin tray + cupcake cases


For decorating:

  • White icing (buttercream or ready-made frosting)

  • Piping bag or zip-lock bag

  • Candy eyes (or white chocolate drops + chocolate dots)

  • Optional: spatula or spoon for spreading


Steps

Baking the Cupcakes

  1. Preheat Oven to 180°C (160°C fan bake). Line a muffin tray with cupcake cases.

  2. Mix Dry IngredientsIn a large bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, and sugar.

  3. Mix Wet IngredientsIn a separate bowl, whisk eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla essence.

  4. CombineAdd wet ingredients to the dry bowl. Mix gently until combined.

  5. Add Boiling WaterCarefully stir in the boiling water. The mixture will be runny – that’s perfect!

  6. Pour & BakeFill cupcake cases about ⅔ full. Bake for 15–20 minutes or until a skewer comes out clean.

  7. Cool CompletelyLet cupcakes cool on a rack before decorating.


Decorating Like Mummies

  1. Prepare Icing BagFill a piping bag or zip-lock bag (cut the corner) with white icing.

  2. Add the BandagesPipe strips of icing across each cupcake in a criss-cross pattern to look like mummy bandages.

  3. Place the EyesAdd candy eyes in the centre — peeking out from behind the "bandages."
