Supplies:
3 popsicle sticks per child
Black or white paint and brushes
White wool or string
Black pipe cleaners (for spiders)
Googly eyes (optional)
Scissors
Glue or hot glue gun (for staff use)
Steps:
Paint the Sticks
Give each child three popsicle sticks.
Paint them black or white and leave them to dry completely.
Make the Web Base
Once dry, glue the three sticks together in a cross shape (like a snowflake ✳).
Let the glue dry so the sticks hold firmly.
Wrap the Web
Tie one end of the white wool around the middle of the sticks.
Start wrapping the wool around one stick, then move diagonally across to the next stick, looping around as you go to create a web pattern.
Keep wrapping until it looks like a spider web — not too tight, and leave some gaps!
When finished, tie off the end and cut off any extra wool.
Add the Hanging String
Cut a short piece of wool and tie it to the top so the web can hang.
Make the Spider
Cut one black pipe cleaner in half.
Twist the two halves together in the middle to make a body, then bend the ends to form eight legs.
(Optional) Glue on two googly eyes.
Attach the Spider
Tie or glue the spider to hang from the bottom of the web with a small piece of wool — as if it’s dangling down!
