Supplies:
Fabric strips, ribbons, or old ties (one per child — these are the “whale tails”)
Cones or markers to set up the play area
Steps:
Give each child a “whale tail” (a fabric strip) to tuck into the back of their waistband or pocket so it hangs out like a tail.
Mark out a play area — this is the “ocean.”
On “Go!”, everyone swims (runs) around trying to collect as many tails as they can without losing their own.
When a player’s tail is pulled out, they must freeze in place.
Frozen players can be freed if another player gives them one of their extra tails.
The game continues until time is up or one player has all the tails!
Other Information:
Great for teamwork and laughter — encourage kids to share tails to keep the game going.
Works well indoors or outdoors with enough space.
Emphasise safe tagging (no pushing or grabbing clothes).
You can play rounds with different ocean creatures (e.g. “Shark Tail Tag” or “Mermaid Tail Tag”).
