Classic Christmas Sugar Cookies

Makes: approx. 24–30 cookies
Perfect for: rolling, cutting shapes, and decorating
Ingredients
125g butter, softened
¾ cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla essence
2 cups plain flour
½ tsp baking powder
Pinch of salt
Optional decorations
Icing (store-bought or homemade)
Sprinkles, hundreds & thousands
Mini chocolate chips
Smarties or M&Ms
Method
Cream butter and sugar together in a bowl until light and fluffy.
Add egg and vanilla and mix well.
Stir in flour, baking powder, and salt until a soft dough forms.
Lightly flour the bench and roll dough to about 5mm thick.
Cut into Christmas shapes using cookie cutters.
Place on a lined baking tray and bake at 180°C for 10–12 minutes, until just lightly golden.
Cool completely before decorating.
Decorating Ideas
Ice with coloured icing and add festive sprinkles
Press chocolate chips or lollies into cookies before baking
Drizzle melted chocolate over cooled cookies
Use writing icing for names or patterns
