PKC MasterChef Day

Theme: PKC MasterChef

Format: Team-based cooking challenge

Structure: 2 rotations (2 courses per rotation)


Aim of the Day

Children work in small teams to complete cooking challenges that encourage teamwork, creativity, confidence, and safe food handling. The focus is on participation and fun, not completing courses in order or producing perfect food.


Grouping (Flexible Based on Numbers)

  • If numbers allow:Split children into 4 groups (Group A, B, C, D)

  • If numbers are lower:Split into 2 or 3 groups

    Staff may adjust group numbers and rotation order on the day to suit:

  • Staff availability

  • Space at each station

  • Children’s ages and abilities


The key goal is to avoid overcrowding at stations and keep wait times low.


Rotation Structure

The day is split into two main rotations:

  • Rotation 1:

    • Course 1 – Fruit Skewers

    • Course 2 – Mini Pizzas

  • Rotation 2:

    • Course 3 – DIY Quesadillas

    • Course 4 – Rocky Road

⚠️ Courses are not completed in order.Children complete the courses assigned to their station during each rotation.

🔁 If running 2 or 3 groups, rotate groups through available stations in a way that:

  • Keeps numbers manageable

  • Allows all children to complete all courses

  • Minimises downtime


COURSE 1 – Fruit Skewers

Children will:

  • Wash hands

  • Choose fruit

  • Create colourful fruit skewers

Staff notes:

  • Supervise skewer use

  • Encourage patterns and creativity

  • Assist younger children as needed


COURSE 2 – Mini Pizzas (Dough Making)

Children will:

  • Mix and knead dough

  • Shape bases

  • Add toppings

Staff notes:

  • Staff handle oven use

  • Support measuring and yeast use

  • Focus on teamwork over perfection


COURSE 3 – DIY Quesadillas

Children will:

  • Fill tortillas

  • Fold and prepare for cooking

Staff notes:

  • Staff cook quesadillas

  • Reinforce food hygiene

  • Cut once cooled


COURSE 4 – Rocky Road

Children will:

  • Select mix-ins

  • Combine with melted chocolate

  • Spoon into cases or trays

Staff notes:

  • Staff manage melted chocolate

  • Monitor portion sizes

  • Encourage teams to name their dessert


Judging Criteria (All Courses)

  • Presentation

  • Creativity

  • Teamwork

All feedback should be positive and encouraging.


Clean-Up Expectations

  • Children tidy their station before rotating

  • Staff oversee bench wipe-downs and handwashing

  • Dishes and rubbish cleared between rotations


Key Staff Reminders

  • Be flexible — adjust groupings if needed

  • Keep stations moving

  • Safety and hygiene come first

  • The goal is fun, teamwork, and participation
